Ministry's Open Day
The Open Day is an initiative of the Minister whereby the Minister together with MTI management relocates the MTI office for a dedicated day to a certain area. It is an outreach programme designed to bring trade and industrial related services closer to the people of Namibia. This gives an opportunity to members of the business community and the public in that particular area to consult the Minister and staff (one on one) without prior appointment.
On this day the public get assistance on any issue pertaining to the mandate of the Ministry, such as investment, business establishment and operation, and industrial development. Both the Minister and the Deputy Minister are available to meet with member of the public directly
The first Open Day was held in Windhoek (Khomas region) in June 2009, followed by Ongwediva (Oshana Region) in August 2009. The Windhoek event was greeted with a positive response from the public and spurred the need to hold similar events in other regions of the country.
Outcome of the previous Open Day events
Minister and Ministry staff had first hand interactions and exposure to local business community, especially SMMEs
- Events revealed Namibia’s significant entrepreneurial energy which can be unleashed into viable business initiatives with government’s support
- Attendees expressed significant interest in MTI’s SMME support programmes, such as the Equipment Aid Scheme, Business Sites and Premises, and Simplified Business Registration Services
- Ministry realised the weakness surrounding its information dissemination and capacity of its regional offices which has resulted into little exposure for its SME-oriented support programmes
- In response to above, the Ministry is continuously working to boost the personnel and technical capacity of its regional offices while fostering closer partnership with all stakeholders
